Thought For Today 3 Dec 2021, J Krishnamurti

You are living on words. When I say, ‘I am a Brahmin,’ which is a conclusion, I have an idea what a Brahmin is, I am born in that class, and I am that. I live on words: a memory of what Brahmin should be, the tradition, the conditioning, which are all words, words, words. I am frightened of being without the word because, in the word, I have found security. Being a ‘Catholic’, saying, ‘I am not a Catholic,’ I am in tremendous danger of losing my job, being looked down upon as an atheist, and all the rest of it. So I have found something extraordinary: my whole life of conflict is based on words. I am – whatever I am – words and memories: dead. Words are dead, and memories are dead. So I am dead, living on dead things. I live on conclusions.
