Thought For Today 27 Dec 2021, J Krishnamurti

Human beings have become so extraordinarily selfish, and in that selfish drive is to fulfil, even killing a whale or a human being. So we are saying, is guilt – apart from the neurotic – a necessary, natural human reaction? I know that if you live with people who are bullies, they make you feel guilty. But that guilt is not yours; others have made you feel guilty. If you bully me constantly, threaten me, then naturally, not being aggressive, not being assertive, being gentle, at the end of a couple of years, I feel, ‘I am so guilty of everything I’m doing’ – which is a reaction created by another. But intrinsically, am I guilty? Or, being a gentle character, you have created a sense which is not normal to me.
