When you meet a snake, your security is involved. So your intelligence operates, not fear. Your intelligence says, ‘Look out!’ – not fear. Fear existed at the beginning of time with regard to that snake, and man has been conditioned to run away or to destroy the snake in order to protect himself. That protection now is intelligence; it is not fear. Now, that same intelligence operates when it sees that there is no security. And therefore that intelligence itself has become security. Intelligence has become the source of security, not in something, not in God, in a perfect state, in a perfect ideal, in the relationships of family, wife and husband, or formulas and all that – in those there is absolutely no security. The brain realises, sees the truth that there is no security in any of these things. Therefore it abandons it. In the very abandonment of it is the intelligence which gives it security.
