Thought can never be new; it is always old. And we worship the old. The intellectuals, the clever people, the thinkers of the world worship thought, worship the past. If there was no experience of yesterday, there would be quite a different state. Thought must be exercised rigorously, logically, sanely, when necessary in the technological or scientific world. But when thought tries to bring about psychological change, it can only bring it about within the pattern of the past. And therefore it is no change at all.
