I am afraid of the pain I had yesterday happening again tomorrow – which is the movement of thought. Thought is responsible for this problem; it has nourished it, sustained it, encouraged it. Thought can only function within the field of knowledge; that is its ground. But fear is something new each time; fear isn’t old. It is made old when I recognise it. Can the mind observe the process of recognition, which is the association of words and so on, without the interference of thought? If it does, fear is not.
