Experience means to go through, but I cannot go through if the past is translating the experience. Going through means finishing. So, as the mind does not go through experiences right through, it retains and becomes more and more sleepy. See the danger of this. So I say, is there a state of mind that is beyond experience, which is awake, which is so enlightened it doesn’t depend on any stimuli? This means a mind that is so intelligent, that is watching its reactions – which go on all the time because we can’t live without reactions – so awake that not a thing that goes by or makes you go to sleep. A mind that is awake has nothing to learn, except in the technological field because learning there implies accumulation. A mind that has accumulated psychologically is a sleepy mind, a drugged mind. So, when you insult me, can I be so watchful that no trace of it remains, neither prejudice nor antagonism against you, nor when you flatter me – watch it, so that it is finished. At the moment of insult or flattery, it is over.
